Part-Time Recovery Center Facilitator - Job Overview

Position Overview

The Recovery Center Facilitator provides day-to-day support at the Community Recovery Center. This role ensures the Center is a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for all recoverees, visitors, and community members. Duties include greeting visitors, maintaining a clean and stocked environment, assisting with basic resource navigation, facilitating mutual support group meetings, and providing support during special events.

This is not a coaching position — the Recovery Center Facilitator does not provide one-on-one recovery coaching services.

This position is funded by a grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). As part of the grant requirements, applicants must have their own lived experience with substance use disorder.

Essential Job Functions

  • Staff regular shifts at the Petoskey Recovery Community Center.
  • Greet visitors and help them feel welcome in the Center.
  • Oversee Center activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and supplies of the Center (stock coffee, meeting supplies, brochures, general cleaning, etc.).
  • Provide basic assistance to visitors (such as directions to resources, using the computer, or connecting with staff).
  • Facilitate mutual support group meetings (such as Dharma Recovery, SMART Recovery, LifeRing, or other recovery pathways) once training and onboarding are completed.
  • Support CRA staff during special events, including set-up, tear-down, and logistics.
  • Assist with scheduling coaching appointments, equipment sign-outs, visitor sign-in, phone coverage, and basic data entry as needed.
  • Report facility or safety concerns promptly to the Executive Director.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure smooth Center operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Lived experience with substance use disorder and recovery (required by MDHHS grant).
  • Experience facilitating groups preferred.
  • Experience working or volunteering in community-based programs preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a welcoming, professional, and non-judgmental environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, etc.).
  • Dependable, organized, and able to follow through on commitments.
  • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Interest in learning to facilitate recovery mutual support groups (training provided).
  • Access to reliable transportation required.

Skill Competencies

  • Familiar with technology or able to learn. Familiarity with Zoom meetings and teleconference equipment a plus.
  • Friendly and approachable with the ability to de-escalate situations calmly.
  • Demonstrates patience, compassion, and respect toward all visitors.
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintains clear boundaries and professionalism with recoverees and community members.
  • Adaptable and able to support events, activities, and changing needs of the Center.
  • Comfortable leading groups and encouraging participation.

Working Conditions

  • Most hours will be onsite at the Petoskey Recovery Community Center.
  • Shifts will be scheduled weekdays, some evenings, and at least one weekend day per month.
  • This is a part-time, hourly position. Benefits include paid time off.

FAQs

The hours for this role will range between 20-25hrs a week. This includes working at least one evening a week (Tuesdays), two mid day shifts, and potentially one weekend day a month.

We do not allow staff to transport clients.

There is no option for remote work at this time.
